Durham Miners Gala 2021 is a highlight of the Durham events calendar. Every year in the second week of July, 200,000 people travel to Durham Big Meeting. From the Gala's history in Wharton Park in 1871, Durham Miners Gala banners marching past the County Hotel is the focus of the day. The banners are taken to Durham Racecourse for political speeches, where Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has spoken for the last few years. There is also a service at Durham Cathedral where new banners are blessed.
