Jeremy Corbyn will speak at the Durham Miners Gala again this year, the fourth consecutive time he has done so.

Jeremy Corbyn, the Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Labour Party, confirmed he will be attending and speaking at the Durham Miners Gala 2019, which takes place on Saturday July 13.

It means that Jeremy Corbyn will have spoken at every Durham Miners Gala since becoming Labour Leader, speaking at four consecutive Big Meetings. He has also attended the Durham Miner Gala multiple times in his 36 years as an MP.

During the Big Meeting he has also often appeared on the balcony of the County Hotel to hear the bands as they play for the dignitaries.

Jeremy Corbyn is the latest name to be added to the lineup for the traditional Durham Racecourse speeches that take place in the afternoon of the Big Meeting. Alan Mardghum, secretary of the Durham Miners Association, said: "We are delighted and proud that Jeremy Corbyn is returning to Durham again to speak at this year's Big Meeting.

"Jeremy is the 15th leader of the Labour Party to speak at the Durham Miners Gala. He continues a tradition that dates back to the first Labour leader Keir Hardie, who spoke at The Big Meeting in 1906.
