Durham Cathedral's schedule of events are coming thick and fast as the summer heats up. Here are the full listings for this month, July 2019.

Whether it's music, family events, or special services to mark important dates in the church calendar, there are plenty of Durham Cathedral events. Here's what's on in Durham Cathedral for July 2019.

#1: Extra cathedral and tower opening times

From Monday to Friday July 1-5, because of graduation ceremonies and the Cricket World Cup at Durham Riverside Stadium in Chester le Street, Durham Cathedral will be open from 7.30am to 8pm, and the Durham Cathedral tower will be open for tours from 6-8pm, but not earlier due to the graduation ceremonies.

#2: Durham University Summer Congregations

The Durham University graduation ceremonies take place throughout the first week of July, and access for visitors to Durham Cathedral will be limited. Durham Cathedral graduation ceremonies take place 9-10am, 11am-12pm, 2-3pm, and 4-5pm from Tuesday July 2 to Friday July 5. Open Treasure, Durham Cathedral Shop and the Undercroft Restaurant remain open as usual.

#3: Durham Miners' Gala Festival Service

A highlight of the Durham Cathedral events calendar, the special Durham Miners Gala service takes place on Saturday July 13, Big Meeting Day. Arrive early as it's always filled to capacity. #4: Under fives forest school

The latest instalment of the Durham Cathedral forest school running on Friday mornings and afternoons, the under fives event is designed to help children develop a love of the outdoors by exploring Durham Cathedral's woodlands and riverbanks in tailored sessions for little learners, led by Durham Cathedral's education team.

The Durham Cathedral Forest School is on each Friday until July 19, at 9.45-11.45am, and an afternoon block is at 1-3pm. Block booking of all six sessions costs £25 per child, and accompanying parents go for free. Booking is essential as places are limited by calling Durham Cathedral on 0191 338 7178.

#5: Verdi's Requiem

Verdi's Requiem at Durham Cathedral is part of the Durham Brass Festival 2019 and features the Brass Festival Choir accompanied by the Reg Vardy Band, as well as a special guest choir from Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas.
