For the children, family entertainment include a Spooky Scavenger Hunt from Monday October 28 until Thursday October 31. There is also face painting and storytelling on the Thursday and Friday, as well as a mini beast display with Bugs 'n' Stuff also on the Friday.
For the adults, local historian David Butler is holding a talk entitled 'Ghosts and Grisly Deaths in Durham City' on the evening of Halloween, Thursday October 31.
The Durham Market Hall talk begins at 6.30pm in Cafe Cenno in the Market Hall. Places for this one-off event are limited, and should be reserved by calling 0191 384 6153 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Managing director of Durham Markets Colin Wilkes said: "We're already getting in the Halloween mood with many stalls decorated, and stallholders planning their spooky costumes. We're pleased to be able to offer varied entertainment for families each day during half term giving them great reasons to come into Durham.
"And for the grown ups, we've our first ever Ghost talk on Halloween in a nearly deserted Market Hall. Come as you are, or in costume, but be prepared to be spooked!
"We certainly hope that Durham Markets can add a little extra to your Halloween fun this year."
