Durham free half term events #1: The Big Draw, Durham Cathedral

Head to Durham Cathedral and take part in The Big Draw - Drawn To Life. The Big Draw is the world's biggest drawing festival and aims to 'celebrate and explore the benefits of being actively creative to make positive change and improve wellbeing'.

The Big Draw is on from Monday to Friday October 28 to November 1. It's free and is suitable for all ages. Borrow a backpack and enjoy walking around Durham Cathedral.

Durham free half term events #2: Celebrate Science, Palace Green

Head to Palace Green in Durham from October 29-31 for Durham University's Celebrate Science event. This free event includes children's events, activities, workshops and experiments. Head to the programme to see what's on.

Durham free half term events #3: Kids Go Free Days, Killhope Lead Mining Museum

On Mondays during school holidays, children go free to Killhope Lead Mining Museum. For more details call 01388 537505.

Durham free half term events #4: Spooky fun, Durham Market Hall

Head to the centre of Durham to enjoy some free activities in Durham Market Hall. From face painting to storytelling, plus a scavenger hunt and creepy crawlies, there's plenty happening ad it's all free. Check out what's on in our Durham Market Hall Halloween story.

Durham free half term events #5: Locomotion family fun, Shildon

There's lots to do at the railway museum Locomotion in Shildon for the Durham half term. Become the next Stephenson or Gresley by building an icon of the National Collection, or explore the collection through word searches, crosswords and picture trails. It's on every day and entry is free.

Durham free half term events #6: Halloween Spooktacular, Pioneering Care Centre

The Pioneering Care Centre in Newton Aycliffe (DL5 4SF) is hosting a day of Halloween fun for free. Taking place on Thursday October 31 from 10am to 2pm, there'll be pumpkin carving, spooky crafts, Punch and Judy and a magician.

Durham free half term events #7: Seaham Fireworks Display

Seaham Town Council is holding its annual free fireworks event on Friday November 1 2019. As well as the fireworks there will be stalls and fairground rides for family fun. Fireworks start at 7pm.

Durham free half term events #8: Northern Crafts, Witham Arts Centre

The Witham arts centre in Barnard Castle is hosting a craft sale with some fantastic locally-made items for sale, including jewellery, prints, jams, toys, cards, scarves, hats, chocolate, soaps, knitted-gifts, puzzles, wooden-gifts, bags, and vintage items. You're bound to find something you like amongst that little lot.

Northern Crafts takes place on Saturday November 2 at the Witham in Barnard Castle, and entry is free.

Durham free half term events #9: Stanley Fireworks Display

Taking place in Oakey Park (DH9 8AW), the Stanley Fireworks annual display will be held this year on Saturday November 2 featuring a fireworks display with a Spooky Spectacular theme. There's also live music and food stalls. It starts at 5pm with the fireworks at 7pm.

Durham free half term events #10: Merryoaks WI Winter Fayre, Old Elvet

Head to the Elvet Methodist Church on Old Elvet for the Merryoaks WI Winter Fayre. With free entry, there'll be cakes, treats, and crafts. It's on Saturday November 2 at 11am to 3pm. Call 07917 315750 for more information.
