The Veg Cities campaign will be hitting Durham Marketplace this week with a variety of events to get shoppers to buy local.

The Veg Cities campaign will be promoted at the Durham Markets Company's monthly Durham Farmers' and Producers' Market when it takes place in mid October.

With streetfood and cookery demonstrations plus stalls selling local County Durham fresh produce, the emphasis in Durham Marketplace will be on eating more locally grown vegetables from independent suppliers.

The Veg Cities campaign, which is part of the Sustainable Food Cities movement, aims to increase awareness and consumption of locally grown vegetables. Durham Markets Company which operates the monthly market, and Taste Durham, the destination food brand for County Durham, have joined the Veg Cities campaign.

When is the Veg Cities campaign in Durham?

The October Durham Farmers' and Producers' Market takes place on Thursday October 17, from 9am.

What is there to see?

At the Farmers' and Producers' Market in Durham Marketplace there will a wide range of locally grown vegetables on offer from David Mellanby and Partners from Leechmire Farm in Hutton Henry. There will also be vegetarian paella supplied by streetfood vendor Eats of Spain, as well as a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables available at Durham City Fruiterers at the entrance of the adjacent Market Hall.  

A team of Taste Durham chefs will be holding cookery demonstrations, making vegetable dishes and sharing recipes.
