Summer in the City 2019 is seeking volunteers to help out at the festival when it takes place in June.

Summer in the City is a theatre, music and art event for Durham happening throughout next month, with events taking place in venues throughout the city.

The Western Art Team at Durham University is seeking student volunteers to become tour leaders for the Bailey Gallery 2019. However, the application deadline to register interest in getting involved is Monday May 20.

To act as a festival assistant, you won't need any previous experience, but you will need to commit to a minimum of at least one full day of volunteering - which will last from 9am to 5pm - during the event.

Volunteers will also need to attend a training session on Friday May 24.

Summer in the City festival volunteer duties will include supporting the running of events including providing visitors with information, and assisting artists and staff with basic tasks. You might also be asked to help with the setting up and closing down of events, which might include moving furniture and equipment.

Other duties might be more visitor-focused, including approaching visitors and helping them to complete evaluation surveys. You might also need to move between venues across the city. There could also be access issues including steps, cobbles, road traffic and narrow pavements.

To apply, email artcollection@durham.ac.uk explaining in 200 words or less why you want to be a Summer in the City festival volunteer, as well as what you believe you will get out of taking part.

ExplorAR will bring you the full itinerary for Summer in the City when it's announced.
