Free events - entertainment without the pricetag. Here's what's on for free in Durham September 23-29 2019.

#1: Durham Lumiere 2019 art workshops

The Bottle Festoon workshops are a chance to get your artwork displayed at the Durham Lumiere festival. Taking place in locations across County Durham, the workshops involve creating art out of old plastic.

#2: Bishop Auckland History and Heritage Festival Poetry evening

The Bishop Auckland History and Heritage Festival continues with A Slice of Life, a poetry evening celebrating the Norman Cornish Centenary. Tony Gadd will bring together work created during the community workshop programme that has accompanied the exhibition.

The poetry evening is on Wednesday September 25 from 6-7pm, in the Mining Art Gallery in Bishop Auckland Marketplace. It's free but booking is required at www.aucklandproject.org/whats-on/ or on 03000 262 052.

#3: Bishop Celebrating Together, Bishop Auckland

Following on from the success of the first Bishop Celebrating Together, the event is back in Bishop Auckland on the weekend of September 27-28.

Organised by the Bishop Auckland Town Team, it starts on Friday September 27 with the Full Moon streetfood market 4-9pm, with music from Ashley Sterling from 6-8.30pm. On the Saturday there will be performers on the main stage from 10am, and there will be a play area with toys and games, plus free face painting.

#4: Acoustic Cafe, Witham Arts Centre Barnard Castle

The Acoustic Cafe in Barnard Castle gives local musicians the chance to play on the balcony in the cafe. This month features local band Gedenforde. The Witham Acoustic Cafe is on Saturday September 28 at 2pm and is free entry.

#5: IncludFEST 2019, Hardwick Park Sedgefield

IncludFEST is a free, fully inclusive and accessible arts festival for children, young people and families to enjoy a range of arts activities. Activities include live music, live outdoor street theatre, participatory workshops, story telling and arts and crafts.
