The Durham Fire and Ice 2020 times and schedule have been announced - here are the times of the main events including the fire show, the sculpture display and the ice carving workshops.

The Fire and Ice Durham Festival 2020 returns to our city at the end of the February half term holidays with two days of free family entertainment.

Taking place on Friday and Saturday February 21-22, the Durham Fire and Ice 2020 theme is Travelling Through Time, and the city will be filled with ice sculptures based around time and travel such as Stephenson's Rocket.

Below, we've put the main Durham Fire and Ice schedule and timings for 2020.

Official opening 10am

At 10am on Friday the Durham Fire and Ice festival officially opens and visitors can begin making their way around the 10 sculptures which are located in positions from Durham Gala Theatre all the way across to North Road and up to Durham Cathedral.

Have a go at ice carving 12-5pm

Under the expert instruction of Glacial Arts - the team that is carving the main attractions and has worked on Game of Thrones - you can have a go at chiselling away your own frozen masterpiece. It takes place in Millennium Square near the Gala Theatre.

Ice carving demonstrations 12-4pm

Would you rather just watch the experts in action? You can see live carving demonstrations in Durham Marketplace between 12-4pm.

Fire performer 5-5.15pm and 5.45-5.55pm

A short show in Durham Marketplace will see a fire performer literally playing with fire in a short show towards the end of the day. Should be exciting and well worth watching.

Night time fire show spectacular 5.15-5.25pm and 6-6.15pm

The finale of the Durham Fire and Ice event is the fire show spectacular, which involves water and fire shooting into the air in time to music. Taking place in front of St Nicholas Church in Durham Marketplace, it's well worth going along to see - and get there early as the crowds are usually quite deep.
