Durham's Fire and Ice Festival 2020 is coming very soon, bringing plenty of free family fun. Here's what you need to know.

The Fire and Ice Durham 2020 festival is two days of activity that will have something for all the family. Judging from previous year's events, it's not to be missed.

ExplorAR.co.uk has pulled together everything you need to know about Durham's Fire and Ice 2020 festival - see you there!

What are the Fire and Ice Durham 2020 dates?

Fire and Ice Durham 2020 takes place on Friday and Saturday February 21-22. Good timing if you were running out of ideas for entertaining the children during February half term (if you need some more ideas too, then check out our five family events for Durham half term).

What's the Fire and Ice festival all about?

Fire and Ice Durham 2020 will bring some fantastically carved ice sculptures to the streets of Durham. They'll be placed on pedestals around Durham city centre and you can walk around and take your picture in front of them.

And where can I see the Fire and Ice sculptures?

The Fire and Ice sculptures will be placed in locations across Durham city. There will be one at Durham Cathedral (last year it was Lego Batman), and another sculpture nearby on Palace Green. There will be sculptures at either end of Elvet Bridge and of Framwellgate Bridge, ones at the Durham Gala Theatre, Durham marketplace, Riverwalk and North Road. Plenty of walking, but it'll be worth it.

What else?

Is that not enough? Alright then: there will also be a Fire and Ice sculpture demonstration. You can watch the Fire and Ice live carving in Durham marketplace, and you can even have a go at ice carving for yourself if you head to Millennium Square and the Gala Theatre.

I seem to remember a fire show last year...

Yes, your memory serves you well, and the Fire and Ice fire show will be repeated in 2020. The fire show will take place like last time in front of St Nicholas Church in the marketplace. Last year was pretty impressive with lots of shooting flames; you could feel the heat from halfway across the marketplace. I wouldn't miss it if I was you.

What time does it all start?

Fire and Ice Durham 2020 will start at 10am for the official opening. The evening fire show spectacular will be at 5.15pm and 6pm, and will last for 10 minutes each time.
