Durham Book Festival 2019 is just around the corner with a host of events for literature-lovers. Here's what's on including the dates, programme and ticket information.

Durham Book Festival 2019 runs from Saturday October 5 to Sunday October 13. It features writers, artists and thinkers from a variety of genres.

There are several Durham Book Festival venues, including Durham Town Hall, Durham Cathedral, county libraries such as Newton Aycliffe and Clayport, and the Gala Theatre.

How much do Durham Book Festival tickets cost?

Ticket prices vary depending on the event, but most of the programme costs in the range of £5-8. Some events are free, and some of the bigger name talks go up to £15.

What are the Durham Book Festival 2019 highlights?

Depends what you're into, but here are a few of the events that caught our eye.

An Evening with Roger McGough should be good, and he'll be presenting his brand new collection, joinedupwriting. The collection ranges from poems about forgotten friendships and the idiosyncrasies of family life to the trauma of war and contemporary politics. It's at the Gala Theatre on October 7, 7-8.30pm, and costs £15, £14 concessions.

Broadcaster Kirsty Wark will be discussing her latest novel, The House by the Loch, which is set in 1950s Scotland. It's at the Gala Theatre on October 12, 2-3pm, and costs £10, £9 concessions.

Jeremy Vine is at Durham Cathedral with his show, What on Earth is Going On? An Evening with Jeremy Vine, where he takes a look at how information and misinformation get mixed together and the sheer volume of news that gets thrown at us all. Are there any Durham Book Festival free events?

Yes, a few. While many of the Durham Book Festival events are ticketed, you can find several that aren't.

The Catch Your Breath exhibition from Thursday to Saturday October 3-5 is free. It's at Newton Aycliffe Library and is a pop-up exhibition that discovers new ways of thinking about breath and breathlessness and their relationship to both illness and well-being. There's also a free poetry workshop at 11am on the Saturday but you'll need to book on 03000 266 600. The Catch Your Breath exhibition then moves to Durham Clayport Library on October 10-12, with a poetry workshop - which you'll need to book - with Christy Ducker on October 12.

The Infinite Cold is on Saturday October 5 at Gala Theatre Studio and is free. It's a family-friendly immersive theatre experience that takes you on a journey of imagination through the wonders of space and time as you watch the Night-Sky-A-Rama. The Infinite Cold is at 10.30am, 11am, 11.30am and 12pm and runs for 15 minutes.

Breathtaking Books is on Sunday October 6, 3-4pm at Palace Green Library. Join the Life of Breath researchers as they delve into a wide range of project topics, from the social and political history of tobacco, to the imagery of breath invoked by Chaucer, Shakespeare, and the Black Mountain poets. It's free but you'll need to book on 03000 266 600.
